Program Graduates 12 Entrepreneurs
The
Suncoast Workforce Board is proud to announce that another
class of students recently graduated from the Community Entrepreneur
Opportunity (CEO) program on November 7, 2006. The Suncoast
Workforce Board, along with community partners Comerica Bank,
SCORE, City of Sarasota Redevelopment Office, and the Small
Business Development Center at Manatee Community
College together support this program. Colonial Bank and the Black
Business Professional Network also contributed to the program.
“This business-training program is for individuals who
reside in Manatee and Sarasota counties and who are interested
in starting or improving a small business. It provides core instruction
for entrepreneurs using a business plan as the framework to determine
the viability of their business becoming a success,” said
Karen Magee, President of Karen Magee and Associates, Inc. and training consultant
for the CEO program.
Courses include business basics, industry analysis, marketing,
operations and financials. “This will be the fourth group of students to graduate since the program’s inception in2005. Thirty-eight studentshave graduated from the 12-week program to date,” explained Magee. |

More than 50 family members and friends gathered
for the graduation ceremony and to hear testimonials from
the students on their plans for the future. “This program
is so far reaching by helping to address many needs in Sarasota
and Manatee counties,” said Vicente Medina, SWB Board
member and Chair of the CEO Council.
“It ties well to
the challenge identified in the 21st Century Workforce Study
to promote and support Suncoast entrepreneurs and this program
encourages entrepreneurs to start and maintain businesses in
enterprise and re-development zones,” said Medina.
